This Is What Happens To Your Body After You Drink Green Tea

Did you know that green tea is the healthiest beverage on the planet? It is loaded with antioxidants and nutrients that have powerful effects on the body. These include improved brain function, fat loss, a lower risk of cancer and many other impressive benefits. Below are 10 health benefits of green tea that are supported by studies. Green tea is more than just liquid. Many of the plant compounds in the tea leaves do make it into the final drink, which contains large amounts of important nutrients.

Tea is rich in polyphenols that have effects like reducing inflammation and helping to fight cancer. Green tea is about 30 percent polyphenols by weight, including large amounts of a catechin called EGCG. Catechins are natural antioxidants that help prevent cell damage and provide other benefits. These substances can reduce the formation of free radicals in the body, protecting cells and molecules from damage.

These free radicals are known to play a role in aging and all sorts of diseases. According to a study conducted at the University of Basel in Switzerland, green tea extract may improve communication between parts of our brain. When study participants consumed green tea extract (in a protein drink) they performed better on short-term memory tests than participants who did not drink the beverage. A separate study carried out on mice showed that green tea protected brain cells from dying and restored damaged brain cells.

A recent study from Johns Hopkins Hospital that consisted of 6 000 participants revealed some cool heart-healthy results! Study reporter Kathleen Doheny said that people who drank one cup of tea a day had about one-third less risk of a major heart disease during the study period than people who didn’t drink tea.

Also, “tea drinkers – who drank from one to three cups daily – also showed a decline in the calcium buildup in their arteries.” Just remember that green tea has caffeine, so keep it below five cups a day!
